Gluten-Free Belgian Waffles

I didn’t make waffles before being diagnosed with celiac disease, and I didn’t think about making them gluten-free until son #3 recently asked if I could. As a result, I received a Krups Belgian Waffle Maker for Christmas. It makes four waffles at a time which I decided would be best for our family of five.

I looked over several recipes and ended up modifying this recipe from RecipeZaar. I doubled the recipe as well as made some changes. My recipe made almost 16 rectangular Belgian waffles. They were light and fluffy and quite a treat to eat. We’re looking forward to more of them!

Gluten-Free Belgian Waffle Recipe
Ingredients
Instructions
Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl. In a medium sized bowl combine the milk, oil and eggs. To make sour milk add 1 tsp. vinegar or lemon juice per cup of milk and let sit a few minutes. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and whisk together. Batter can be slightly lumpy. Pour onto a hot waffle maker. For large Belgian waffles, I cooked them 5 minutes.

Remove and top with syrup, fruit, and/or whipped cream.

This recipe reads like it will work and your experience says it does so I will try it. I bought an inexpensive waffle iron since going GF but the batch I made were not good - went right in the trash! Thanks for posting. I like the light and fluffy confirmation!
 
Just made these and they are very good. My 12 year old daughter and I are just starting out eating gluten free and she said that she wouldn't even know they weren't regular waffles.
 
That recipezaar recipe is my waffle recipe. I make it at least once a week. I usually add some vanilla. I have added pumpkin in the past as well and decresed the amount of liquid to accomodate and then added pumpkin pie spice. It is a great recipe. I will have to try your adaptation. Recipezaar is one of my favorite gf recipe sites.
 
I had run out of sorghum flour, so used quinoa instead and it worked great ... thanks!

I made these for tonight, and they were amazing! The best waffles I've ever made, gluten-free or not. Thanks for the great recipe!
 
Just wanted to say that I used this recipe to make plain pancakes. I had to add about another 1/4 C sorghum and probably another 1C of Brown rice flour to make it a bit thicker. I added some cinnamon and Allspice as well as some vanilla. They taste very good.
