Ultimate Blog Party 2010

Ultimate Blog Party 2010
Welcome to The Gluten-Free Homemaker.  Here you will find recipes for delicious gluten-free food that is taste tested.  My testers include my husband and three teenage sons, as well as various friends and extended family.  I have been cooking and baking gluten-free for over nine years so I have a little experience, but I’m still learning also.

What is gluten-free?
If you’re not familiar with the term “gluten-free” it means food that is free of gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, & barley.  In addition, main stream oats are contaminated with wheat and have to be avoided.  People with celiac disease are required to be on a gluten-free diet for life.  Other people just don’t tolerate gluten, and some people find that a gluten-free diet helps children with autism spectrum disorders or ADD/ADHD.

Gluten-free can be delicious for anyone.
If you don’t eat gluten-free, you might still find this blog useful.  While the baking recipes won’t work for you because they have lots of ingredients you wouldn’t normally have in your kitchen, many of my dinner ideas are loved by anyone including this Mexican lasagna:

What you will find at The Gluten-Free Homemaker.
Gluten-Free Wednesdays
This blog provides recipes as well as information on celiac disease, gluten-free living, and other food/kitchen related topics.  I host a weekly carnival, Gluten-Free Wednesdays, where people link to a gluten-free recipe, review, or other gluten-free eating idea.  You don’t have to have a gluten-free blog, but the post you link to should be gluten-free.  At the end of each month, I post a review of links from that month.  You can read more about the carnival here.

A Few Favorite Recipes.

Obviously, baking is the biggest challenge to the gluten-free cook.  It is a challenge I have enjoyed and here are a few results.

Party With Tiff (UBP post)

so glad i found your blog through the UBP... :D I'm a celiac too and try as I might, can never seem to be "happy" with the recipies I find (nor are the kids!!) so I'm always looking for new things to try!

I have another friend who does a GF blog... strawberriesareglutenfree.com between the two of you, I hope to be eating better! happy partying!

I have tried gluten-free but had no idea what I was doing and ended up just subbing rice flour for wheat flour, which was disastrous. I could have used a blog like this! Awesome!

A few extended family members have gluten-free diets and I've been struggling to find good things to take to family parties - your blog is a goldmine!

Happy party!

Happy blog party!
Wow gluten free! I am going to have to check out the rest of your blog!

So many sites, so little time...I am glad to check out yours, hope you'll pop over and visit mine!

I feel you on being on a special diet. I struggle with being on a diet because of insulin resistance. No sugar (wahhhh), low carbs, high protein and veggies.

Good morning! It's so awesome to *meet* you! I am SOOO going to try your GF recipes. I LOVE GF!

Stopping by from the party! Your recipes look wonderful. We are not GF, but I probably should be w/ CFS and Fibro.

I am starting to suspect that my 10 year old daughter has celiac disease. When she was little she was allergic to all grains except barley, kanoot (sorry never spelled that) and rice. She couldn't even drink milk of any kind except for rice milk. We are making an appointment to have her tested. Do you have any tips or things we should watch for?

you can find me here.

Hi! I didn't link up to the party this year but stopped by to see how many people joined in. I saw your site and just had to check it out. We go mostly gluten free here. For other health reasons not listed in your post! I will be back for some recipes. I also share recipes on my blog too :)

I admire you for coming up with such tasty looking treats that are also GF! I can't even imagine doing that all the time! We tried going GF but just couldn't due to the cost and the fact that there seemed to be Gluten in EVERYTHING!!

Stopping by from UBP10! While no one in my immediate circle requires a gluten free diet, I have several friends who have fewer stomach issues when they keep gluten to a minimum, so I was glad to find your blog at the party. I'll be showing them your blog so we can try some of your recipes, like those cinnamon rolls. Yum!

Wow...over from the UBP and SO glad to have found you! I've been researching gluten intolerance the past while wondering if that's what I have and I was imagining a life full of deprivation and boring food! Your blog makes me hopeful that even IF gluten free is where I have to go I can still enjoy eating! I am now following you :)

Check out my blog, I have some fun giveaways!

My friend's mother has started a gluten-free diet due to a health issue also. I will be passing on your blog to her for the recipes!!!
Blessings!

i forwarded your blog address on to a dear friend of mine whose toddler has severe food allergies. i'm sure this blog will be a blessing to her. so glad i found it! take care and have fun at the UBP!

Stopping by from UBP 2010 - my first and loving it. Your recipes look good. I was diagnosed with gastroparesis (stomach paralysis) last year. My doc has had me on a soft/liquid diet for the past 6 months...no fruits or vegetables, no fiber of any kind. I can have grilled or baked chicken, turkey & fish. It's a hard diet to stick to. I cheat sometimes but then I regret it later with severe stomach pains.

So I feel your pain.

Wow! I've been coming across people on the net who are eating gluten free and I've been wondering about it. I'm glad I found your site through the UBP10.

Happy partying!

Stopping by from the party!
My sister-in-law eats gluten-free. When she comes I'm always trying to find ways to make "real" food for her that we will all enjoy. I can't wait to share the blog with her, too!

AHHHH!!! I just figured out about a month ago I'm gluten intolerant and at first it was a shock and a PO moment. However, now I'm so happy because I feel better all the time, have energy and actually WANT to get out and do things!

Stopping by through UBP! I've added you to my reader. While I'm not gluten-intolerant, I have been reading a lot about how avoiding or reducing gluten can have health benefits, and I'd like to learn more.

Stopping by from UBP! I have a couple of kids who should probably be eating more of a gluten-free diet. I've been slowly switching things in our diet. They aren't celiacs, but have some allergy issues that diet would probably help. Looks like a lot of great info. and recipes here. I"ll have to spend some time looking around.

Here's my post: Spell Outloud UBP

Dropping in from UBP! I have a cousin who is trying a gluten-free diet. Happy I can pass along your site.

Very nice to meet you! I think I've been here before - seems like a familiar place. :)

We ate gluten free for over 2 years and I got quite obsessed with gluten free baking. I rather enjoyed it, but we brought it back into our diet and we're all doing fine with it. (I still like to do gluten free once in a while for our guts.)

I just wanted to say hello. Randomly clicked over from the blog party.

Have a beautiful Thursday.
