Soup Theme -What can I eat that’s gluten free?

What can I eat
The first Wednesday of each month this carnival has a theme, and today it is soup.  If you don’t have a soup recipe to link up, that’s okay.  Anything is fine, the theme is just a suggestion.  If this is your first time participating in the carnival, please read the guidelines here.

Once upon a time this wife, mother, and blogger used to be an elementary school teacher.  My first year teaching, the principal decided to give me a very challenging 4th grade class, full of behavior problems.  It wasn’t just that I was a new teacher, this class was know for being a bad group since they started at the school.  About the time Halloween came around, the newness of the school year had worn off, and I was still learning how to handle these kids (I did manage it eventually).  Things were not going well.

For Halloween, the school had a poem writing contest.  Each class was to write a gory poem about a witch’s brew, and the winner would get a little party at the end of the day on Halloween.  My class did a pretty good job with the poem, and I think those in charge were feeling sorry for me, so we won the contest!  At the end of the day, they brought in our very own witch’s brew.

I think it was made with orange cool aid, spaghetti noodles, grapes, and maybe something else.  If that doesn’t sound appetizing to you, imagine trying to eat it after having written a poem about a brew filled with eye balls (grapes), and guts (spaghetti).  No, it wasn’t really a treat for the kids.  In fact, one of them threw up.  Then another.  Then another.  Then another.  Till it was most of the class.  It was the end of the day too, and kids had busses to catch.  Ahhh!!!  Thanks so much for choosing us to win this contest!

Well, I hope your brew soup, is more appetizing than that witch’s brew.  I’m sure it is, and I’m looking forward to reading about it.  My submission for this week is:
creamy vegetable soup

I was laughing so hard at your post that I pushed return before I finished entering all my info. Can you add that I made Fried Okra. (Still can't believe I fried anything...)

I used to teach elementary school...I am so much happier at home. I had a kid throw-up last year when I was teaching. I almost lost it, too. He threw up all the way down the hall. Ugh.

I tried to get the soup post together...maybe I'll have it next week. (Better late than never!)

And this is yet another reason why I don't wish to teach! LOL How horrible!

I had to think, but finally decided upon my gluten-free beef stew. I have made SO many soups lately, it's not even funny!

Oh no... bless you for being an elementary teacher. Somebody has to do it, I'm just glad it isn't me! :) This is my first time joining the carnival, and I had just posted a soup recipe over the weekend. Good timing, eh? I'm looking forward to reading everyone's contributions.

That sounds like quite a class! I'm working on a soup for dinner tomorrow...here's hoping it will be good enough to post!

What a story! My sister has similar stories about her first year teaching first grade.

Throwing up is my worst fear (more than dying). I'm glad I wasn't in your shoes. It would be the scariest Halloween ever! I'm surprised the kids wanted to eat it...Funny story.

That was too funny! I have been teaching computers to K-4th for two years now, and have had kids throw up in the classroom twice. Luckily, it wasn't a group activity!

I just made a sausage-lentil soup (which could be easily modified to be vegetarian, too). I'll work on getting the recipe posted; it was delicious.

I love a good soup theme! Great idea!

Great story. My wife teaches 5th grade. I'll have to let her read your story. The vegetable soup looks delicious.

Funny story! Your soup looks great!

Cheers!

Ah, very funny, the things teachers go through (I have a few teacher friends).

Your soup looks very yummy. Tastes do change, as an adult I try very hard t try things that I couldn't stand as a child, most of them I find I like. I also have my husband try things he "doesn't like" and we find he changes his mind on occasion too.

Oh wow - now there's a first year teacher nightmare! You had me rolling :)

Thanks for the great round up!
