Welcome

Ultimate Blog Party 2009Hi! Welcome to The Gluten-Free Homemaker. In case you haven’t heard, 5 Minutes for Mom is hosting the Ultimate Blog Party this week. So for those of you who are new to my blog, I’ll tell you a little about it.

In the fall of 2000, I was diagnosed with celiac diboys 3-19-09sease, an autoimmune disease which can only be treated by a strict gluten-free diet. Since my diagnosis, I’ve been learning to cook and bake gluten-free. I have greatly enjoyed the challenge and have discovered that gluten-free can be delicious. Many of my family’s favorite foods are a result of my gluten-free endeavors. My husband and three sons, ages 17, 15, and 12 are my taste testers. They are very happy with that job.

With the goal of passing on some of what I have learned, I started this blog in August 2008. I write about gluten-free recipes, gluten-free living, celiac disease and any other related topics.

what's for dinner wednesday small2 “What’s for Dinner Wednesday (gluten-free style)” is a blog carnival I began hosting last month. The goal is to provide a place where people can get gluten-free dinner ideas and to help build a sense of community among gluten-free bloggers and readers. So far, it has been great with some really good dinner ideas.

I hope you take a few minutes to look around. If you like what you see, why not subscribe to my RSS feed? The subscription button is in the top left corner of my sidebar.

Don’t forget to head over to the Ultimate Blog Party! Besides having links to lots of great blogs, they are also having giveaways. My top three picks would be:

  1. Kitchen Aid Artisan Stand Mixer - a great tool for gluten-free bakers!
  2. $100 gift card to Home Goods
  3. $50 Targe gift certificates offered by Shoot Me Now, Agoosa, and Beginner Baby Blog
  4. Retro apron from Country Girl, City Life (USC 58)

And since we're supposed to list any of the prizes we would like, here they are somewhat in the order I would want them. 88,68, 26, 91, 113, 118, 123, 121, 11, 12, 15, 43, 50

I am just checking out all the blogs and seeing how everyone else does theirs.
Have a great week of partying

I am so subscribing! My husband might have Celiac (we haven't had him tested cause most doctors give us the run around) but I've tried GF diets before and even if he's not Celiac, we both always feel good on them!

I'm excited to scope out your recipes! Party time :)

Cheers to tasty GF living, right?

I am stopping by from The Ultimate Blog Party to say hello and to check out your blog. I am looking forward to a fun week!! :)

Love the idea of your gluten free dinner link up! Great picture of the boys too. Where is S and the dogs, lol?
Hope you have a great field trip today.

Oh, wonderful site to find. Don't know if i'm actual Celiac or just sensitive to it. When i don't eat gluten-free, i sure pay for it in pain!

Glad to find you.

What a wonderful site to find! I don't have a gluten allergy, but I am allergic to sulfites - which are found in almost everything boxed, bagged or canned nowadays. Can't wait to check out your Wednesdays.

i admire your discipline in your diet. i have lupus and am glad i don't have a strict diet because i know i won't be able to stick with it.

have fun partying!

Good Morning on this beautiful spring day!
I am out partying!! haha about the only kind of partying I do. Thanks for inviting us to stop by during the Blog Party.
I am Aunt Rene from auntrene.blogspot.com, stop by sometime.

I am so glad to have found this site !!
I have celiac !!

Happy Party Day !!

I am blog hopping today and wanted to say hi! Our good friend has Celiac's disease and I'm always looking for some good gluten-free recipes for parties and such. So I will definitely be back again.

Great to find your site. You do good work!

When you get the chance stop by and say hi. I'm writing about living an abundant life (on a budget).

Enjoy the Party!

Sharon

The gluten-free diet is something we have been considering. Glad to have found you through the UBP!

I'll be back!

Hey there,
Nice to meet you :)
Happy Partying!!

Hi Linda. My family went gluten free for 2 1/2 years after being tested through Enterolab and being diagnosed as gluten intolerant (not celiac). We benefited a lot, but after our guts healed we were able to go back to gluten-full! :) Although we are now careful to go easy on ourselves by eating sprouted and soaked grains.

I'm over for the Blog Party. It's been very nice visiting today and meeting you. :) I'm sure your gluten free recipes have been a huge support to many - celiac is such a common thing anymore.

Have a great day and come and visit me, as I'm having some fun giveaways!

Great blog! I'll have to share this blog with a friend of mine who also has had to go to a gluten free diet because of illness. Hope you are enjoying the festivities!

Happy Ultimate Blog Party day!

I'm bookmarking your site to come back and steal recipes. I too have celiac disease and trying to live gluten free. Hope you have a wonderful bloggy party!

Interesting, I'm glad you're enjoying the challenge of baking/cooking gluten free. I've only known one person who had to eat like that and we were in high school, it was rough on her. I imagine it would be rough for me too. Good luck with winning the prizes you want!

I don't have celiac, but one of my newer friends does - your blog looks really useful!

Mmmm! Your ham & potatoe casserole looks so YUM! Thanks for sharing!

I popped in from The Ultimate Blog Party...all the way from Queensland, Australia! G'Day! I hope you have time to visit my party soon.

This is a HUGE challenge. Had to do it for awhile. Good for you for having such a fanTAStic attitude. I'm sure that has rubbed off on your family.

Found you through UBP! Nice to meet you. Drop by anytime. I write a humor blog. :)

I'm a homeschooling mom of two teens.

Hi. Happy Partying to you and am glad to hear that you're having fun learning new ways to cook. It's so helpful to look at it positively and keep moving on!

Hello.
Just party hopping! :)

Woah! I have two small sons (4 and 1) and the first thing that came to mind when i saw the pictures of your sons was "Jonas and Deacon and _______ are going to be like that one day soon!"

I've read several blog where people say they are living a gluten free diet. I really do not know much about it or much about what leads to that decision. After the party, I look forward to coming back here to learn more about it.

It's so great that you're sharing your enthusiasm and knowledge about gluten free cooking. It's so great that you can help so many people with this blog.

Thanks for partying with us.

I'm a fellow celiac stopping by from the ultimate blog party :) I have a collection of gf recipes too linked from my blog - I have a sweet tooth so mine tend towards desserts...

Thought your idea for gluten-free stories is quite interesting - have you received a high volume of responses or are you still looking for more?

Cheers,

Mary

Very nice to meet you. I found out about your through the UBP.

I have this mom who was asking about recipes for her baby with celiac and it was so hard to find support for her in the mom community. I'm glad you are doing this.

Nice to meet you!

Talk about a party!

I'm quite intrigued and am learning how to get around!

Just stopping by from 5minutes for moms blog party!

As a nurse, I am constantly involved in the learning process and this is one of my favorite diseases to read about.

Great site! I have a cousin who was ust diagnosed with celiac disease. I'm going to have to pass on your website to his wife.

Back in '96, I was diagnosed with DH (a form of celiac), but it probably was a misdiagnosis because I am back to eating wheat again. I wonder if the body can naturally heal itself over time? Anyway, I was gluten free for a while. It was an interesting adventure, and I learned to cook a lot of things. Now, I write about organizing.

great meme I will have to check it out
I hope you are having fun at the UBP I am come over and party with us when you have time

Will have to tell my sister about your blog. My 5 year old nephew is autistic and she has been thinking of trying a gluten free diet with him.

Happy UBP!

Great blog! I've been curious about GF since i began reading more about the food-mood connection. I can't wait to get a chance to read more!

It's awesome that you are doing what you need to so that your family can be healthy. I've come across the words gluten-free in a few places but don't know much about it. I'll be back to check it out. In the meantime I'm off the visit some more parties.

Nice to meet you at this year's UBP.

Enjoy the party!

Thanks for your blog! My mom has Celiac's and I believe I'm well on my way down that route so it's been tough to figure out the "wheat -free" thing.

Great blog...lovin' your party time... Yesterday I went to an alternative Dr and was dx that I needed to go on a wheat/ meat free diet (for starts). Feelin' a little lost, but I'm looking forward to feelin' better.

Stopping by for the party before it ends. I have to admit I'm not sure what Glueten Free means though I have heard a lot about it. My father was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease I wonder if this diet will help him as well.
Anyway nice to meet you and come stop by for my party if you have some time.

Blog Party Woohoo! Talk about fashionably late, right, sorry. I have been sick which left me in a fog all last week, so I am still trying tomake my rounds. Better late than never I figured. Anyway, hope you had a great week at the UBP. Hope to see you again sometime!
