Mexican Dip Appetizer

Do you need an appetizer for Thanksgiving? This Mexican dip is easy, and people like it. In fact, I took it with me the other night when I played cards with some ladies, and it was a big hit.

Mexican Dip
Ingredients:
 Topping:
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 2 Tb. shredded cheese
  • 1/4 tsp. chili powder
  •  chopped lettuce
  • shredded cheese

Instructions
Saute the ground beef and onion. Drain. Add the chili powder, refried beans, tomato sauce, and taco seasoning. Mix and heat to boiling. Spread into a 9 or 10 inch pie plate.

Combine the sour cream 2 Tb. shredded cheese and 1/4 tsp. chili powder. Spread over the beef mixture. Sprinkle with lettuce and cheese. Serve with corn chips.

This is based on a Betty Crocker recipe. You can view a similar but slightly different recipe here.

Doesn't the Taco seasoning have gluten in it? I was going to use some in a recipe the other day, and saw wheat as one of the ingredients?

I was just going to ask the same question...I know that some of McCormick's spices were GF but I didn't think the mixed/multi seasonings were...including the taco seasoning?? That's great if it is!!! That would make my life so much easier!

Many seasoning mixes do contain wheat. McCormick taco seasoning does not. You can check the ingredients at their web site. I am currently using a large bulk size container, but I have also used the packets. I always check the ingredients when I purchase it in case anything has changed.

Doing all dairy free now, so gonna miss sour cream. I got Daiya cheese, but it just isn't as good.
